September 2025 Update
SAP, OpenAI and Microsoft Launch AI Initiative for Germany’s Public Sector
SAP, OpenAI and Microsoft have announced a new initiative called OpenAI for Germany, set to launch in 2026. The collaboration aims to bring secure and sovereign AI solutions to Germany’s public sector, ensuring compliance with the country’s strict standards on data sovereignty, security and regulation.
At the heart of the project is SAP’s Delos Cloud, running on Microsoft Azure, which will provide the infrastructure for AI workloads. According to SAP CEO Christian Klein, the initiative represents “a major step towards AI solutions built in Germany, for Germany.” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman highlighted that AI will help improve public services while reflecting Germany’s values of trust and safety. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella added that Azure will ensure AI is deployed responsibly and resiliently across public institutions.
The partnership will focus on helping government employees, administrations and research institutions accelerate daily tasks and dedicate more time to citizens rather than paperwork. Planned applications include process automation in records management and data analysis. SAP also intends to expand its Delos Cloud capacity in Germany to 4,000 GPUs, with further investments to follow depending on demand.
This initiative directly supports Germany’s national AI ambitions. The High-Tech Agenda targets AI-driven value creation of up to 10% of GDP by 2030, while the Made for Germany initiative, supported by 61 companies including SAP, has pledged over €631 billion in investments. SAP itself recently announced an additional €20 billion investment to strengthen Germany’s digital sovereignty.
The BOLD Experience 2025: Austria’s New Innovation Festival
Austria will host a brand-new innovation festival this autumn: The BOLD Experience, taking place on 5 November 2025 in Vienna. The event is designed as a meeting point for pioneering thinkers, startups, established companies and international visionaries, all coming together to present cutting-edge technologies and forward-looking solutions.
The festival programme includes keynotes, workshops, deep-dive sessions and immersive showcases that highlight the transformative role of digital applications, artificial intelligence and product innovation across different industries. Among the highlights are a virtual reality demonstration showing how VR can be applied in forensic investigation, as well as Shadowmap’s “Seeing How the Sun Really Shines,” a project that uses digital twins to visualise solar energy potential and urban shadow dynamics.
The BOLD Experience will be held in both German and English, and participation is free of charge, although registration is required due to limited capacity. By creating a space where creativity, technology and business meet, the event aims to inspire collaboration and spark new strategies for the future.
